Channel 4 Convergence Labs
Date: 25 January 2011 to 02 February 2011
Venue: London/Bristol
PLEASE NOTE: The deadline for applying to attend has passed.
From entertainment formats like Million Pound Drop, to creating cult content for fans of Hollyoaks, building knowledge communities around Embarrassing Bodies, to developing games like 1066 and educational sites like Super Me, Channel 4 is currently the most imaginative and innovative broadcaster in the UK when it comes to cross-platform and new media commissioning.
The Channel now wants to extend and build on this portfolio of work by engaging with a wider community of independent producers and freelancers capable of devising, developing and producing cross-platform projects for the TV, web and mobile platforms.
To explain and explore the Channel's approach more fully, Crossover will be hosting two Channel 4 Convergence Labs for indies and freelance producers from backgrounds in TV production, web design, games development and other audio visual sectors in early 2011. Up to 20 people will participate in each workshops which will be held in London and Bristol.
The Labs will feature case-studies, presentations and peer-to-peer discussions using Crossover's open, directed collaborative methodology. There will also be an opportunity discuss ideas with commissioning editors from Channel 4's crossplatform commissioning team.
The goals of the events are to:
outline Channel 4's approach to and for cross-platform commissioning;
develop an understanding of the challenges of developing factual and entertainment formats for new media;
to develop better understanding among professionals from different sectors;
explore ideas for innovative projects making appropriate use of established and new platforms;
to discuss ideas with commissioners and producers with experience of crossplatform production and distribution.
The London Lab will be on January 25th/26th, 2011
The Bristol Lab will be held on February 1st/2nd, 2011
