Sorry, could we just hold the vows bit until I have finished my Pimms.

Having been awarded a merit for my Foundation Studies in Art, Media & Design at UWN in September 2005 I spent three years studying a BA Hons in Documentary Film & Television, I graduated with a second class honours, division 2 on the 30th January 2009.

Throughout my Art Foundation course I experimented with many areas including graphic design, photography, fashion design, textiles, and time based media.  Although I find conventional art enjoyable, and am capable of drawing and painting in the mediums of both watercolour and acrylic, I had a desire to explore more contemporary media including some sculpture and video installations. This led me to enrol on the Documentary Film & Television course at UWN.

I found the course was ideal for me and gave me a hands-on approach to further develop my skills by using the relevant equipment and processes.  These include the use of digital video cameras, lighting, and dubbing systems and also storyboarding and editing.   I have experience of both Adobe and Macromedia programmes including Final Cut Pro and Photoshop and am happy using either Macintosh or PC platforms.

During the second year of my course it was noted by my tutor Chris Morris that I showed confidence and had clear communication skills.  He advised me to appear in my own films in order to put across ideas and information.  One of my films was called ‘Stroke’.  Not only did I spend time at the Stroke Association in Bridgend to interact with patients on camera, I also participated in a fundraising event by abseiling off the Newport Transporter Bridge.

I was also commissioned to work with the Fashion Design students at UWN by filming and creating the DVD of the 2006 Fashion Show.

Since June of last year I have also undertaken some work as for Palladium Training & Consultancy. My main tasks at the company are to prepare Conference facilities, monitor and ensure adequate stocks of office and conference facility suppliers. Liaise with suppliers, placing orders and progressing chasing orders. I also facilitate a number of their Team Building Events, which are all inspired by the creative arts, and I have enjoyed interacting with individuals and groups creating learning opportunities.

Since finishing my degree I have Filmed a few Wedding and I’m starting up my own business called Highlights Media. I am currently building the website and should have it up and running by 2010.

My particular strengths, is my outgoing nature and enthusiasm.  I am able to make friends easily and generally get on well with other people of all ages and cultures.  I can also work as an individual under my own initiative or as part of a team.

Commissioning the Future

Commissioning The Future is the new European training initiative for commissioning editors and funders, developed by Crossover (UK) in partnership with Documentary Campus (Germany) and Sheffield Doc/Fest (UK).

We strongly believe that it is vital to train the decision-makers in order for the convergent marketplace to really thrive. Therefore we have developed this new European training course offering three five-day long creative and commercial innovation labs, focused on commissioning for the emerging convergent digital media ecology.
